Winners of the 2007 Hill Country Playwriting Festival, “Under a Cowboy Moon” and “The Only Virgin in Jubilee County” are presented in tandem as an evening of rural “slice-of-life” comedy for ONE WEEK ONLY, November 27th through December 1 at 7:30 p.m. and on December 2nd at 2:15 p.m.

“Cowboy” sets itself in a honky-tonk bar in Spitwhistle, Texas, where P. A. Carswell played by Mary Beth Madsen and Deuce Watley (Paul Otis) decide to put on a Cowboy Poetry Contest. Contestants come in from near and far and include actors, Cory Blanchard (Henry), Preston Kirk (Michael/ Buck), Chris Porter (Rafe Cainfield, the villian), and Morgan Beck (Boone Hawkins, the good guy). Rebecca Proctor (Michelle Jett) and Simon Dawes (Frank Adams) arrive in Spitwhistle to film a

documentary of the contest. Priscilla Castaneda (Jill) works as a waitress at the bar and Kathy Rose plays Rafe's girlfriend, Teri.

“Virgin” makes up the feminine side of our showcase, as a pair of “ brides to be” (played by Jennifer Holland and Sabrina Blankenship) gets caught up in a web of lies and half-truths while shopping for their wedding dresses at Tammy Ann Rennert’s (played by Jane Kelly Martin) One-Stop Bridal Boot-ique. As the ladies one-up each other with clever one-liners, a very iconic image appears on the backside of a gown being fitted, causing havoc and then honesty climaxing in a revelation of each characters’ self absorbed state. Carolyn Lloyd, Toni Rysdam-Shorre, Lance Center round out the cast.

These shows, directed by Dennis Martin and and stage managed by April Adams, will run for one week only at the Hill Country Community Theatre. It will be important for audiences to get their tickets early to be assured of a seat. Tickets are $15. for adults and $7. for students and children (Rated PG13). As usual, on Tuesday November 27th, HCCT will sponsor an opening night reception with food and drink (at no additional cost to patrons). Wednesday, Nov. 28th’s performance, is a “2 for 1” evening. Two tickets for the price of one with a donation benefiting the nearby Camp Agape. Call the theatre box office (830) 798-8944 for details and reservations. Visit the website at www.HCCT.org
