JANUARY 19, SATURDAY AT 8:00 PMThe Uptown Marble Theatre and GTT Entertainment present the first in an ongoing series for 2008. Tommy Alverson’s Heroes & Friends Show will pick up where his critically acclaimed 2005 CD of the same name left off. The Uptown Theater will give Tommy an intimate listener’s venue, where he will make many of the legends of Texas Music feel right at home. The shows starts with Alverson and his special guest Johnny Bush, taking to a pair of center stage bar stools with acoustic guitars in hand, and a bucket load of songs written or recorded by the guest artist. Tickets are $15.00 in advance, $20.00 day of show. Call the theater for information about limited table seating in front of the stage for $25. Doors open at 7 PM.

Tommy Alverson is known as the Dean of the Texas Honky Tonks and annually brings together the best in traditional Texas Music as well as the cream of the crop of “New Texas Artists” at The Tommy Alverson Family Gathering Music Festival. Alverson, with his smooth vocal style and a journeyman’s knowledge of the guitar, easily bridges the generations from Willie and Waylon and the Boys, to Cross Canadian Ragweed, Jason Boland, and Reckless Kelly. Four times in 2008 Tommy will ask one of his musical pals to join him in a song swap. The first, on January 19th will see one of his Heroes, the legendary Johnny Bush, sitting on the stool to Tommy’s left while they engage in an old fashion “guitar pull”. Bush has been a major part of the Texas Music Scene for more than 5 decades and penned the Willie Nelson anthem “Whiskey River”. This will be a rare opportunity to see two icons of Texas Music tell lies, stories and jokes as they weave songs into the tapestry of the intimate Uptown Marble Theatre.
