HISTORY OF POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS AT KEYSTONE MUSEUM IN LAMPASAS
Submitted April 13, 2008 by Special

The Keystone Square Museum has just opened an exhibition of historic and recent objects and memorabilia related to the Lampasas Police and Fire departments. Also on view are antique toys and collectibles generously loaned from the collection of Robert Reed. These include a child-size police cycle and fire truck. Reed has given his permission for children to have their photographs taken in these when they visit the exhibition. For a special drawing, Reed has donated a fire mark - a sign that was posted on a house or building indicating up-to-date insurance and thus guaranteeing service from the fire department. Those interested should fill out a slip of paper with their name and e-mail or phone number, and at the end of the exhibition, when the drawing has been made, the winner will be contacted.

Visitors will enjoy seeing historic photographs of firemen and policemen at work and some of the early tools of the night watchman and patrolman, among other objects. Many of these are on loan from the Lampasas Fire and Police Departments.

“Our Public Servants: Firemen and Policemen through Lampasas History” will remain on view through July of this year. The exhibition was organized by Carol Wright with the help of Tim Angermann, Jody Cummings, Robert Reed, and members of the Lampasas Police and Fire Departments. The Keystone Square Museum is grateful to them for their service to the community.

The Keystone Square Museum is a non-profit organization. Admission is free. Regular hours are Saturdays, 10 am to 2 pm, and by appointment. The museum is located at 303 South Western Ave., Lampasas, TX. Please call 512-556-2224 for more information.
